Yesterday was the first day of school in Michigan (it is a state law that public schools cannot start before Labor Day, the only exception being year round schools).
I took both of my nephews to school. It was Caden’s first day of 6th grade, and Trenton’s first day of 1st grade. They are getting too big, too fast. It seems like just yesterday that Caden was starting to go to school all day and Trenton was just a baby. All I can say is that time flies.
If you have a little one in your life, enjoy that precious time before school starts. I know it can be frustrating at times, but it really does go by too fast.l
That isn’t to say that there isn’t fun to be had once kids start school. It’s always fun to visit their classrooms, attend their school parties and field trips. It’s amazing to watch them learn new things, and almost everything brings back memories from when I was a kid.
When Caden was in fourth grade, I bought him the book Takes Of A Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume. He loved it and read all of the Fudge books – which was something I did at the same age.
Trenton is at that “helper” stage – he wants to be involved in whatever you are doing. At Christmas, he is the one who wants to help bake cookies and he loves to go through my scrapbook stuff and make art projects for people.
I am soaking it all in, at every stage, but am still wondering if there is some magic pill that you can give kids to stop them growing so fast!
